(Boulder, CO) – Former Riverton High School student-athlete Parker Paxton didn’t take long to start turning some heads on the golf course a Colorado University.
The Buffaloes competed in Lahaina, Maui Hawai’i November 2-4 at the Hawai’i Ka’anapali Classic. Colorado finished second overall as a team, finishing only behind second-ranked Oklahoma.
As just a freshman, Parker competed at the tournament as an individual and not amongst the CU team effort. Paxton quickly drew attention from the entire field, however shooting a 3-day 204 for 9-under-par, tying him for 14th overall in the field.
On Monday, Paxton broke a Colorado golf record by shooting an eagle on all three of the course par-5 holes. He’s the first Buff golfer to ever have three eagles in the same round. In total, Paxton finished with 3 eagles, 11 birdies, 32 pars and just 8 bogeys.
“It’s been a very fun fall, I’ve gotten some very good experience,” Paxton told CUBuffs.com. “That’s the biggest thing, the confidence I’ve gained, getting a lot more comfortable and getting my feet wet with how college golf is and with the college game in general. Three eagles in a round doesn’t happen every day, so it’s really good record, but records aren’t why we play the game.”
Buffaloes head golf coach, Roy Edwards told reporters he was impressed with the college rookie. “Parker had a breakout week — he’s been knocking at the door all fall. This week was a glimpse of his capability.”
CU golf now has a short break after the fall portion of their schedule. They’ll return to coopetition in February. Their full results/schedule can be found here.
