(New Orleans, NO) – As most were celebrating the start to 2025, New Orleans was mourning. Fourteen victims were killed after a man plowed through a barricaded Bourbon Street in a pickup truck, striking his victims with the vehicle while simultaneously shooting guns out the window at more. The assailant was ultimately struck-and-killed by New Orleans police. At least 35 others were injured throughout the attack.
In the following days, many GoFundMe efforts popped up to support the family members of these innocent victims. Former University of Wyoming star basketball player, Larry Nance Jr. was one of many who participated in giving. To every verified GoFundMe, Nance Jr. donated $2,000.
After leading Wyoming to a Mountain West Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015, Larry was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. His NBA career has allowed him to play with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trailblazers, and from 2022-2024, the New Orleans Pelicans. The journeyman was traded from New Orleans to Atlanta after the 2024 season, but it didn’t stop him from sharing his love for the Crescent City.
“Will always have so much love for the NOLA community, ❤️” Larry wrote following the tragedy.
Nance began his 2025 by undergoing surgery for a fractured hand on January 2nd. Prior to the injury, the 32-year-old was averaging 9.5 points per game and 4.3 rebounds with the Atlanta Hawks.
