(Riverton, WY) – A howling wind combined with cold temperatures led to a turnover-plagued contest between the Riverton and Lander Freshmen on Monday afternoon at Wolverine Field. The Wolverines won the game 15-0 on two final-period touchdowns, both off Tiger turnovers.
In the game, Riverton fumbled the ball four times, turning it over to Lander.
When the Tigers were on offense, they were intercepted four times and had one punt blocked.
Adding to the wild ball handling were repeated penalties by both teams, primarily holding calls that negated good gains by both teams.
After three scoreless periods, Riverton finally found the end zone on defense. Lander had a fourth and long and had to punt from their end zone. The ball ended up on the ground with a Wolverine falling on it in the end zone for a touchdown. Riverton scored the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
On the ensuing Tiger drive, Riverton picked off the ball a fourth and final time. After a short five-play drive, the Wolverines scored again, kicked the point after, and held on for the 15-0 final score.
