A 59-year-old Fremont County man is being charged with 3 counts of “delivery of methamphetamine” after special agents and the Bureau of Indian Affairs worked on the case for just over 7 months.
During the operation that began in late April 2018, a person referred to in court documents as a “confidential informant” met with 59-year-old Archie Powell in Fort Washakie after arranging to purchase methamphetamine from him.
Court documents show that the informant met with Powell in a residence. He then brought out a, “big crystal rock,” put gloves on, and broke off a, “chunk of meth” giving it to the purchaser in exchange for $140.
The informant, as well as law enforcement agents, worked the case for several more weeks gathering information. They purchased methamphetamine at least two more times while the operation continued. Court documents did not reveal how and when an arrest took place.
However, Powell is now facing the three charges. Delivery of Methamphetamine is punishable by up to 20 years of imprisonment and up to a $25,000.
In late November, Powell waived his preliminary hearing. The matter will be transferred to District Court for arraignment at a later date.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
