All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
Kenneth Shakespeare Jr., 34, of Fremont County is facing one count of Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol With Children In Vehicle – 2nd or Subsequent.
On July 16, 2020 a Riverton Police Department officer was conducting routine patrol on North Federal Boulevard when he observed a vehicle going 5-7 mph in a 30 mph zone.
As the officer followed the vehicle, he noted that the driver turned south onto North 7th Street East and, “stopped in the middle of the road between East Main Street and East Fremont Avenue.” After stopping in the middle of the road for a few seconds, the vehicle then pulled over to the west side of the street. The RPD officer exited his vehicle to check on the occupants.
When the officer approached the driver he noted in court documents that the driver, later identified as Shakespeare, “opened the door and stumbled out.” The officer asked the driver if he was okay, and Shakespeare replied with mumbled speech, “lake – no – river.” Court documents show that Kenneth also had, “blood shot eyes and smelled of alcohol.”
After a failed field sobriety test and a ER/IC breath test BrAC of .246%, Shakespeare Jr. was placed under arrest.
Court documents show that Kenneth had three children inside the vehicle with him at the time of his arrest. Two 5-year-old children, and a 2-year-old child.
Driving Under The Influence of Alcohol with Children in Vehicle is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
