(Fremont County, WY) – Unemployment rates rose in every Wyoming county – including Fremont County – from July to August 2024, according to a Monday report from the Research & Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.
The report indicates that Fremont County’s unemployment rate rose from 3.3 percent in July to 3.4 percent in August.
The Fremont County unemployment rate was 3 percent in August 2023, according to the report.
Statewide, the report said the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose from 2.9 percent in July to 3 percent in August.
The statewide rate was 2.8 percent in August 2023, according to the report.
“It is somewhat unusual for jobless rates to increase in August,” the report states. “From August 2023 to August 2024, unemployment rates increased in every county, perhaps suggesting that economic growth is moderating around the state.”
The largest July-August increases occurred in Platte (up from 2.7 percent to 3.6 percent), Goshen (up from 2.6 percent to 3.4 percent) and Niobrara (up from 1.8 percent to 2.6 percent) counties, according to the report.
The largest August 2023-August 2024 increases were found in Goshen (up from 2.2 percent to 3.4 percent), Johnson (up from 2.2 percent to 3.1 percent) and Platte (up from 2.7 percent to 3.6 percent) counties, the report states.
Teton County posted the lowest unemployment rate in August at 1.8 percent, according to the report, followed by Crook County at 2.5 percent.
The highest unemployment rates were found in Big Horn, Platte, and Sublette counties, each at 3.6 percent, according to the report, which notes that the current U.S. unemployment rate is 4.2 percent.
In addition, the report says Current Employment Statistics (CES) estimates show that total nonfarm employment in Wyoming (not seasonally adjusted and measured by place of work) rose from 297,800 in August 2023 to 299,000 in August 2024, an increase of 1,200 jobs (0.4 percent).
September unemployment data will be published Oct. 23.
