On January 12th, 2019 a Riverton Police Department officer observed a Jeep Cherokee traveling on North Federal Boulevard in Riverton at approximately 60 mph in a 30 mph zone.
While the officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle for a traffic stop, he noted the vehicle continued onto Pure Gas Road at a high rate of speed and failed to use a turn signal.
In court documents, the officer noted that he had to travel 60 mph to catch up to the vehicle, and after activating his emergency lights and siren, the vehicle, “slammed on its brakes and came to a complete stop in the road.” Due to coming to a complete stop after traveling at 60 mph, the RPD officer said he had to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle.
The officer said that after making contact with the driver, he could smell a strong odor of alcohol. The female driver did not have a driver’s license and provided a false name to officers. After running the name provided and learning it was not the driver’s true identity, the woman was placed under arrest for interference. While under arrest, the woman identified herself as 33-year-old Ambrosia Harris.
Harris was issued a standard field sobriety test, which documents show she failed. Harris provided two breath samples, the lowest reading was a .204% BAC.
After a record check, RPD learned that this was Harris’ fourth DUI charge in the last 10 years, which qualified as a Felony DUI and possibly an “enhanced penalty.”
She was charged with two counts of Felony DUI and one count of Interference With A Peace Officer.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
