December 21st was the shortest daylight day of the year and the beginning of Winter Solstice. In Riverton, it was also the warmest day of the month so far.
Riverton topped out at 47 degrees this afternoon according to the National Weather Service.
Data had not been posted for other county communities yet, however, Weather Underground suggested that Lander reached 46 degrees for their unofficial high temperature, and Dubois was right at the freezing mark of 32 degrees this afternoon.
The warmer temperatures in the Riverton-area valley were assisted by recent windy conditions. Riverton saw sustained wind gusts mid-week of around 40 mph.
Jeffrey City and Fort Washakie both had gusts of 50 mph Thursday, while the Chief Joseph Highway area was the windiest in the state.
