(Fremont County, WY) – The Friends of South Pass City recently announced a “major” $90,000 gift the organization received this summer from the estate of Clark Lucas.
“Mr. Lucas had deep ties to South Pass City as a descendant of the Carr Family,” the announcement states. “His ancestors were miners and business owners here at SPC in the last 1890’s. The Carr Butcher Shop still bears his family name. The Carrs eventually settled in the Wind River Basin as farmers and ranchers.”
The Friends of South Pass City say the “extraordinary” gift from Lucas’ estate will be used to “expand interpretation here at South Pass City.”
“Over the next few years visitors will see our interpretive programs grow exponentially,” the announcement states, describing improvement including new exhibitions on the historic site, a Wi-Fi based app, and plans underway “to take the history of South Pass City directly to schools with a mobile exhibit.”
“Because of Mr. Lucas’ generosity the future of South Pass City is very exciting, and the Friends of South Pass City are deeply grateful,” the announcement states.
