A 14-year-old Gillette boy will stand trial as an adult after bringing two handguns and ammunition to his middle school.
A judge in Gillette ruled Friday that there was sufficient evidence to try the boy on nine counts of attempted first-degree murder. One for each of the alleged targets during a November 13th incident in which there were no injuries or shots fired.
Another student at Sage Valley Junior High School reported that the 14-year-old had shown him a gun and told him that he was going to, “get in trouble.” The student reported the weapons to the school’s principal, who found the guns and ammunition on the 14-year-old.
Reports from the Casper Star-Tribune indicated the student wanted to shoot a teacher and students in a class because he “didn’t like them.”
The boy’s mother said in court that her son had mental health issues and should have a psychological evaluation before the trial according to Gillette News Record reporters.
