(Statewide) – Governor Mark Gordon has officially signed a proclamation declaring September 27, 2025, as Wyoming Public Lands Day, following a request from the Keep it Public, Wyoming coalition—a group of 83 businesses, 34 organizations, and more than 1,200 individuals committed to defending America’s public lands.
Wyoming Public Lands Day, which was established in 2019, celebrates the state’s public lands, which provide world-class hunting, fishing, recreation, wildlife habitat, and economic opportunity.
“Freedom to access public land is what makes Wyoming so special. These shared spaces are where we hike, run, bike, fish, hunt, work, and reconnect with the land and each other,” said Gabe Joyes, co-director of the Lander Running Club, a Keep it Public, Wyoming member, and co-director of Run the Red, professional runner, and coach. “On Public Lands Day, we invite everyone to get outside and experience what makes this state so special—and what is at stake if these lands are ever sold off.”
Added Joe Kondelis, President of the American Bear Foundation, a Keep it Public, Wyoming member: “Wyoming’s outdoor traditions depend on access to public lands. That’s why the sporting community stands united against their sale or transfer. Public Lands Day is a reminder of the value our public lands have to everyone.”
Keep it Public, Wyoming was formed in 2016 in opposition to the transfer or sale of public lands and continues to advocate for keeping public lands in public hands.
