(Big Horn, WY) – Thanks to the Big Horn County Search & Rescue team, two visitors from Germany made it safely back to their hotel. The couple were enjoying the great scenery in Big Horn County last weekend when their GPS told them to take a popular, but very rough ATV trail on South Trapper Rim.

Last Saturday, two visitors from Germany were out enjoying our beautiful scenery and decided to follow the fastest route suggested by Google Maps. You probably already know where this is going.
Unfortunately, what looked like a shortcut on a screen turned out to be more of an American Ninja Warrior course for vehicles. Their Jeep Compass gave it its best shot, but after blowing two tires, they found themselves stranded near South Trapper Rim. Our team was then called out for mission #26 this year. We responded, along with folks from @Big Horse Point S Tire & Auto, and were able to help them out.
We’re glad everyone was safe, but it’s a good reminder that GPS apps don’t always know the condition of remote roads, seasonal routes, or rough two-track trails. So before you go, do a little extra research and don’t blindly trust Google Maps to know what’s best for your vehicle.
