The Lady Rangers avenged an earlier home loss to Wind River on Friday night, 59-39, at Pavillion. The loss drops the Lady Cougars to 1-3 in the Southwest 2-A Conference with two league games remaining.
Wind River hosted Big Piney Saturday afternoon and finishes the regular conference schedule at Ethete against top seeded Wyoming Indian next Thursday. The Lady Cougars are tied with Kemmerer for third place in the Southwest.
Wind River was brutal defensively with repeated hard fouls, and the Lady Rangers made them pay at the free-throw line. Kemmerer hit 23 of 32 attempts from the line.
On the night, three Wind River players, Emory Nicholas, Atavia Smith, and Morning Sky Littleshield fouled out.
Wind River’s effort at the line wasn’t as impressive, with the Lady Cougars connecting on nine of 16 attempts.’
Kemmerer doubled Wind River in the opening period, setting the tone at the line with a perfect six for six.
Trailing 16-8 entering the second period, Wind River played nearly even but still trailed 29-19 at the half.
A highlight came with just seconds left in the second period when Littleshield drove into a Kemmerer double-team down the lane, dribbled from right to left behind her back, and sailed in for a layup.
One Lady Cougar had a good night at the line. Atavia Smith hit all five of her attempts, plus a follow shot and a 3-pointer to pace Wind River with 10.
Kemmerer freshman Logan Rogers led all scorers with 24. Fellow freshman Lilly Lozier added 18 for the Lady Rangers.
