(Fremont County, WY) – The Diversion Dam Bridge will be closed until further notice, Fremont County Transportation Superintendent Billy Meeks confirmed with County 10 today, May 7.
Meeks shared that WYDOT recently conducted an annual inspection of the bridge, which is located on County Road 24 in Fremont County and carries traffic across the Wind River, and the structure was “deemed not safe.”
Alternate routes are marked in the area, Meeks said, adding that there is access from the east end of Diversion Dam Road.
Plans for possible work on the bridge, which is over 100 years old and was built by the Taggert Construction Company of Cody between 1924 and 1925, are “too early to tell,” Meeks added. He said that an engineer’s estimated restoration cost was in the area of $24M.
At this time, there is no timeline for restoration/reopening.
