UPDATE – The restriction has been lifted.
(Fremont County, WY) – A Level 2 chain law is in effect for portions of WY 28 South Pass roads for January 5, as of at least 8:45 AM, according to WYDOT/wyoroadinfo.com.
The chain law is in effect for roads “Between the Fremont/Sublette Cty Line and Atlantic City Rd” and “between Atlantic City Rd and Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate.”
Conditions are listed as “Slick with Snowfall” on these roads, with some areas (Between Mile Marker 47 and Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate) under a Black Ice Advisory.
When conditions are extremely hazardous under a Level 2 chain law, WYDOT explains that travel can be restricted to:
- Vehicles equipped with tire chains
- All-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with adequate mud and snow or all-weather-rated tires
- Under Level 2, commercial vehicles must have chains on at least two of the drive wheels at opposite ends of the same drive axle
