UPDATE: As of at least 3 PM, the chain law has been lifted and the Extreme Blow Over Risk advisory has been reduced to all high profile vehicles under 25000 GVW.
(Fremont County, WY) – A Level 2 chain law is in effect for portions of WY 28 South Pass roads for February 17, as of at least 9:30 AM, according to WYDOT/wyoroadinfo.com.
The chain law is in effect for roads “Between the Fremont/Sublette Cty Line and Atlantic City Rd” and “between Atlantic City Rd and Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate.”
Conditions are listed as “Wet, Slick in Spots with Dangerous Winds, Blowing Snow, Reduced Visibility.”
When conditions are extremely hazardous under a Level 2 chain law, WYDOT explains that travel can be restricted to:
- Vehicles equipped with tire chains
- All-wheel-drive vehicles equipped with adequate mud and snow or all-weather-rated tires
- Under Level 2, commercial vehicles must have chains on at least two of the drive wheels at opposite ends of the same drive axle
A weight restriction advisory has also been issued for all high-profile vehicles under 65000 GVW.
The advisory is in effect for areas “Between the Fremont/Sublette Cty Line and Atlantic City Rd.;” “Between Atlantic City Rd and Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate;” and “Between Mile Marker 63, Westbound Closure Gate and US 287 / WY 789.”
