(Riverton, WY) – A candlelight vigil will take place this weekend to mark the fifth anniversary of Anderson Antelope Sr.’s death.
The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, at the Walmart parking lot.
Antelope’s sister Lavina Bell said the upcoming candlelight vigil will be held at the spot where Antelope’s body lay “for a long time after he was killed.”
“It was just an awful thing that happened, and I just wish it never did,” Bell said. “He didn’t deserve to die the way he did. His life mattered. He was a grandfather, uncle, brother, cousin. … Andy was a good person, and he had a right to live.”
The vigil is expected to last an hour or an hour and a half, she said, inviting “anybody (who) wants to come to join.”
“If anybody wants to say anything about my brother, it’d be fine,” Bell said. “If not, we’ll just have the vigil.”
She asked those who are unable to attend the event to “keep (the) family in their prayers.”
