(Lander, WY) – The girls on the LVHS Swim and Dive Team had a successful Homecoming Week last week. Lander hosted Cody and Worland on Friday, walking away easily with the victory. Then Saturday they traveled to the Pinedale Invitational where they faced off against eight other teams. It came down to the last relay, but Lander was victorious at that meet as well.
Friday’s home meet Lander earned victories in eight of the twelve events, including all three relays. Individual event winners were: Katy Anderson (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke), Sara Kearns (50 Yard Freestyle), Vayda Havens (100 Yard Freestyle), and Cira Hampton (500 Yard Freestyle). Also scoring points for the Tigers were: Emily Plaisted, Liv Ooten, Eden Kemp, Ann Rudd, Iris Woltman, Chayse Denton, Brinlee Heller, Ruby Johnson, Alaina Russell, Adlyn Even, Jojo Olssen, Lyla Rounds, Kimi Salway-One Horn, Milana Wood, and Cadence Hamilton.
On Saturday in Pinedale, the athletes battled through some post-Homecoming tiredness and some illnesses. Lander took the top place in five events, including two of the three relays. It was team depth that again kept them in the hunt for the team title with 15 different individuals scoring. Earning points for the Tigers were: Katy Anderson, Chayse Denton, Adlyn Even, Cira Hampton, Brinlee Heller, Sara Kearns, Eden Kemp, Liv Ooten, Emily Plaisted, Ann Rudd, Iris Woltman, Liv Ooten, Emily Plaisted, Ann Rudd, and Iris Woltman.
Head Coach Erik DeClue highlighted the work of the divers this week. “The divers are really improving and it’s awesome to watch. We had some personal best scores and a new qualifier.” Alaina Russell achieved state qualifying marks in diving with her score of 156.00 for six dives. Russell has now earned the right to wear the green parka and compete at the state meet coming up in November. She becomes the seventeenth athlete on the Lander team to qualify this year.
The team will be at home this week for two meets. Senior Night will be celebrated at the beginning of the quad meet on Thursday at 4 pm. Then the team hosts Jackson on Saturday for the scramble relays.
