2020 marks 51 years since Martin Luther King Jr’s assassination.
His message is a powerful as ever, however. Spanning from his hometown of Atlanta, the Civil Rights Museum and location of his death, Memphis, all the way to central Wyoming.
Hundreds of Fremont County citizens, students, and community leaders came together Monday morning, in 10-degree weather, to march from Riverton City Park to Riverton City Hall.
Signs promoting unity, equality, and with some of King’s famous phrases were on display. Several held signs promoting equality for Native Americans, and promoting the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls movement.
After the short walk, community members took turns speaking at Riverton City Hall. A common message of peace, hopefulness, and rights for all of mankind were shared.
The equality and MLK march has been taking place on MLK Day in Riverton for 17 years.
