It is with deep sorrow we say good-bye to long-time Lander resident, Floye Weekly who passed away July 7, 2025, at Northern Big Horn Hospital in Lovell, Wyoming with her loving family at her side. Floye was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming December 23, 1942, to Elmore and Mae Weitzel and she grew up with her 3 sisters Deanna, Jacquie, Sandi, and brother John. Floye met her husband Wesley Weekly during their high school years in Cheyenne and married in July of 1963.
The start of Floye’s lifetime achievements while still in high school, attended Beauty School giving her the first step to independence. She was a hair stylist for many years in Cheyenne, Douglas, and New Castle, Wyoming. Floye had an artistic talent that never stopped. She took a 2-year art course with Famous Artists School inspired by her love of painting. Many of her paintings have sold over the years. When she and Wes moved to Lander in 1973, they opened “Weekly’s Interiors” where she started with upholstery. Upholstery came to an end, and she opened a ceramic business that included pouring, painting classes and traveled the United States teaching seminar classes for many years. Quilting called her name and “The Backdoor Quilter” was created. She spent many years sewing quilts, teaching quilting, and making numerous quilts for family and friends, acquiring many quilting awards throughout the years.
Floye is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Weekly. Wes passed in May of 2024. They had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in July 2023.
Floye is survived by her 2 daughters: Regan Price (Jeff) and Wendy Reed (Leroy); 3 grandchildren: Brandon Reed, Jake Reed, and Hannah James (Cody); 4 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Reed, Ashlynn James, Leland James, and Emma James; and her sisters Deanna Sullivan (d.Pat) and Jacquie Jones (Paul). The grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved hanging out with Floye. She always had fun activities with them: games, coloring, and baking cookies.
Though we mourn your loss, we commemorate & honor your incredible life, free spirit, and smile! With love in our hearts, Floye/Mom/Sister/Grandma/Great Grandma, you will be missed and always remembered.
Per Wes and Floye’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held at their mountain property.
