Larry Christensen

Larry Christensen, 82, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2025. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cheri of Mesquite Nevada; his sons, Scott Christensen of Victor Idaho, and Jamie Christensen (Laura) Rock Springs, Wyoming; and his cherished grandchildren: Tony, Ashley, Meleah, and Elise Christensen of California, and Blaine Christensen (Jordan)go Green River, Wyoming and Blaec Blaisdell (Danny) of Rock Springs Wyoming. He is also survived by his great-grandsons, Ashton Parker, Roman and Bryce Blaisdell, Beau Christensen, and Atticus Christensen.
Born on December 26, 1942, Larry dedicated his life to education, athletics, and family. In 1972, he moved to Lander, Wyoming, where he taught English at Lander Valley High School and coached football and wrestling, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students and athletes. After years in the classroom, he transitioned into school administration, serving as principal of Lander Valley High School and later principal of Riverton Middle School following his move from Lander to Riverton in the late 1990’s. He retired from education as principal of Riverton Middle School and went on to work for BOCES in Riverton, continuing his commitment to learning and leadership. Larry also served on the Central Wyoming College Board from 1988-1996 and the Fremont County School District #25 Board of Education from 2006-2014.
Larry was passionate about sports and the outdoors. For many years, he was a respected football official. He loved hunting big game alongside his sons and friends while in Lander, and after relocating to Riverton, he rediscovered his love for golf and took joy in hunting geese with his close friends and grandkids.
Larry’s first wife, Kay Christensen, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, preceded him in death in 2013. Following Kay’s passing, Larry moved to Mesquite Nevada where he hoped to retire for good and play golf. His deep love for family, steadfast dedication to education, and enthusiasm for life’s adventures will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
This Summer his grandkids, their spouses and great grandkids will play a round of golf in Riverton in his memory. The date and time will be shared if his friends would like to stop by for fellowship at the Riverton Country Club.
Larry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former students, and colleagues.
