In loving memory, Roger Smith

Roger Dale Smith, a dedicated family man, respected businessman, and "Papa" to many, passed away in Sheridan, Wyoming, on December 7, 2025, at the age of 84.
Born on August 15, 1941, in Forsyth, Montana, to Marlene and LL Smith, Roger grew up with a spirited nature and a strong work ethic. During his years at Powell High School, he was a standout athlete in football and wrestling. It was there that he met his lifelong love, Jeannette Laree Lamb. Their bond grew into a marriage spanning over 60 years—a partnership defined by love, laughter, and a touch of mischief.
Roger was a pillar of the regional trucking industry as the owner and operator of LL Smith Trucking. Specializing in oilfield services and heavy haul trucking, Roger earned a reputation for unwavering integrity. His business ventures took him across the nation, allowing him to build lasting friendships in every corner of the country.
Beyond his professional success, Roger was deeply committed to his community and his family’s passions. He was an active supporter of the Rodeo Club and Job’s Daughters, and a dedicated member of the Masons and the Shriners. He found joy in the simple pleasures of Wyoming life: hunting, playing poker, collecting cars, and studying local history. Above all, he cherished time spent "tormenting" his grandchildren with his trademark big personality and positive attitude.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, LL and Marlene, and his beloved wife, Jeannette.
His legacy lives on through his children: Rodney (Linda) Smith, Lori (Mark) Kohler, Kevin (Linda) Smith of Riverton, and Doug Smith of Carlin. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald (Sandy) Smith of Amarillo, TX, and Beverly Jones; along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will forever miss their Papa.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held May 30th at the Shrine Club in Sheridan, WY 145 W Loucks St. at 1:00.
