In Loving Memory of Sherry Dike
Sherry Lee (Clark) Dike from Lander, Wyoming passed away after a brief illness at Sagewest Hospital in Lander on Thursday, March 27th.
Sherry was born on July 27, 1946 in Auburn, Washington to Agnes Lucille (Crissup) Clark and Olin Allen Clark. She was the youngest of 10 children. During Sherry’s childhood, the family moved to Kansas and then to Boulder, Colorado where she attended high school.
When Sherry was 18 years old she went on a blind date with William (Bill) Dike in his beautiful 1964 Buick convertible. They married after a brief courtship on May 7, 1965 in Boulder, Colorado. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Paul, Cindy, Lisa and William (Bill).
Sherry worked in many different jobs throughout her life. She was a hairdresser out of the family home when her youngest child was little. In the early 1980’s, Bill and Sherry opened their own glass business, Bill Dike’s Glass. Sherry worked at the family business until they sold it in 1991.
In 1990 the family bought a small ranch between Cheyenne and Chugwater, Wyoming. While living in Wyoming, Sherry worked in a variety of jobs including cooking at the local community college, working at a hotel in Cheyenne, and decorating cakes at the Wal-Mart bakery.
Sherry was a loving caretaker who took care of many members of the family. Her mother-in-law, Pearl Dike, lived with Sherry and Bill while she suffered from Alzheimers. Sherry also cared for her grandchildren, who lived with her over the years.
In August of 2002, Sherry lost her beloved husband Bill after he succumbed to cancer. She sold the ranch a year later and moved to Cheyenne. When her youngest son, Bill and his wife moved to Lander, Wyoming, Sherry followed shortly after. It was a joy for her to be able to spend time with little grandbabies again and she loved going to the local casino. While living in Lander, Sherry worked at Community Entry Services, where she cared for adults with disabilities. She was such a loving woman that she would bring her clients to family holiday dinners and grandchildren’s birthday parties.
In December of 2019, Sherry had a heart attack and she was no longer able to work. She moved in with Bill and Sarah and their two children where she lived for her last five years. She enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, and watching reruns of old television shows.
On Saturday, March 22nd, Sherry was having a difficult time catching her breath. The family called an ambulance and she was taken to Sagewest Hospital where she was diagnosed with RSV. That, in combination with her COPD, was too much for her body to overcome. She passed away peacefully on the morning of March 27th.
Sherry was preceded in death by her dear husband Bill, her parents and siblings, and her grandson Chris. Those left to remember her are her children, other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren including her grandsons Paul Jr. and Jeremiah Dike and granddaughter Julianna Satlzman of Colorado. She has left an empty place in the home of Bill and Sarah Dike and their children Forrest and Madeline and will be very missed.
A small service in her honor will be held at 4 North Fork Rd, Lander, Wyoming on Saturday, April 12th at 1 pm.
