(Riverton, WY) – Three Fremont County girls reached the finals of the prestigious Ron Thon Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Riverton on Friday with Lander’s Jordan Nielsen crowed the winner at 125 pounds with a third period pin of Torrington’s Catherine Hendricks at 5:46.
Riverton’s Hailee Cooper and Aleah Marquez made the championship match but finished second at 100 and 235 pounds respectively.
Lander had a strong team showing, placing eighth with 91 points. Shoshoni and Wind River out of Class 2-A fared well against the best the state could offer finishing 10th and 12th.
Star Valley ran away with the championship outdistancing second place Pinedale by almost 70 points with 232.5. Class 2-A Kemmerer competed very well, finishing fourth
Shoshoni and Lander each had a pair girls finish with bronze medals for third place.
Andie Gibson pinned Bailey Mueller of Natrona County for third at 140 pounds and Harlie Velarde won by fall over Sheridan’s Bridgette Price at 170.
Shoshoni’s Brueklyn Truempler was third at 135 with a 14-8 decision over Abriana Laird of Rawlins and Sayer Arnhold won by major decision 19-2 over Avianca Guzman of Laramie at 110 pounds.
This year’s Ron Thon opened with girls’ only on Thursday with the medal matches held Friday morning.
