On Saturday, November 7th 80-year-old Patricia Allen died unexpectedly.
Patricia was the grandmother to former Wyoming Cowboys and current Buffalo Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen.
Holding back tears and with a heavy heart, Allen decided to still compete in the Bills game the following Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
Allen went 31/38 for 415 yards and throwing 3 touchdowns, beating Russell Wilson’s Seahawks 44-34.
Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll told reporters Monday, “When (Josh) came off the field and into the locker room he kind of fell into my arms. A lot of emotion there.”
While living in Buffalo, Allen has spent a considerable amount of time visiting and raising funds for the Oishei Children’s Hospital. Recently, an upstate New York grocery chain teamed up with Josh to create Josh’s Jaqs, a cereal in which some of the proceeds go back to the hospital.
After Allen’s big performance last week, Bills fans began donating to the hospital in honor of Josh’s late grandmother. Donations specifically of $17, Allen’s jersey number, began coming in.
Within five days the hospital has received over $300,000 in donations in Patricia’s name.
