(Riverton, WY) – Riverton Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter Kim Lee will be inducted into the Wyoming Firefighters Hall of Fame during a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Wyoming Fire Academy, 2500 Academy Court in Riverton.
The Hall of Fame recognizes the accomplishments and achievements of all first responders from a variety of response agencies or departments who, in their service to the community and citizens of Wyoming, have excelled in their dedication and service, according to a press release from the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office.
The press release says individuals are nominated for the recognition by a fire department or agency which submits the nominees’ accomplishments for review by an independent committee.
“The application must prove that the firefighter has significantly contributed to the Wyoming Fire Service and to the citizens of the State of Wyoming,” the press release states. “Those who are nominated and approved must have had an impact beyond the community they served, and their influence must have been recognized statewide.”
Robert “Rob” Akers with the Weston County Fire Protection District and Wyoming State Forestry Division will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame during the ceremony.
Memorial
The Wyoming Fallen Firefighters Memorial Observance will take place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the same location.
The service is held annually to recognize and honor those Wyoming firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the citizens of Wyoming.
This year’s service will honor all those firefighters and their surviving family members.
In addition, one fallen Wyoming firefighter will be inscribed to the memorial this year: Don Bodine with Evanston Fire and EMS.
Constructed in 1990, the memorial is inscribed with the names of Wyoming firefighters who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty since 1920.
Both of Saturday’s services will include participation from many first responders, family and community members, and both ceremonies are open to the public.
