(Fremont County, WY) – Kinnear man Matthew Smith was sentenced to 41 months imprisonment for an assault resulting in serious bodily injury charge at this sentencing hearing held today, August 21, before the Honorable Judge Alan B. Johnson in Cheyenne.
Smith was sentenced/charged in relation to an assault incident that occurred back in December of 2024, which left the victim with non-displaced rib fractures, a fractured toe, damaged cartilage in their neck, and soft tissue swelling on their face, according to original complaint documents.
Those documents state that Smith strangled the victim two times that night, leading to loss of consciousness both times.
The second time the victim regained consciousness, their dog was biting Smith, and they were able to kick him “hard enough to break a toe,” then ultimately get to a neighbor’s house to call law enforcement, leading to his eventual arrest.
Smith was also ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release at today’s hearing, and pay a $100 special assessment fee, with the possibility of restitution remaining open for 90 days.
