An ice-cold opening period sank the Lady Blue in conference action at home against Northwest 2-A leading Greybull. The Lady Buffs handled Shoshoni 61-36. Shoshoni is currently third in the conference with a win over Rocky Mountain.
In the opening period, only a close-range shot by Memphis Dolcater and a free throw by Addi Mason prevented the shutout.
Greybull is a balanced, talented team, with size and great shooting range. They play tenacious defense as well.
Shoshoni head coach Ryan Gilbertsen calmed his girls in the second period, and they were able to go toe-to-toe with the much taller Greybull squad for the remainder of the opening half.
A trey by Brenna Metzler extended the Greybull defense a bit, allowing Natalie Gilbertsen to get off a few close-range shots along with a pair of 3-pointers. Gilbertsen had 11 points on the period.
Any chance of a come-from-behind rally disappeared in the third period with the Lady Buffs clicking offensively inside and out.
Gilbertson led Shoshoni with 13 points.
The Lady Blue makes the trip across the county to the valley of the Little Wind, playing at Ethete Thursday against Wyoming Indian.
