(Shoshoni, WY) – It was close for a while, but the Wyoming Indian press kicked it in in the third and fourth periods and the visiting Lady Chiefs pulled away from the Lady Blue of Shoshoni 65-32.
Shoshoni handled Wyoming Indian’s pressure in the opening period, but the Lady Chiefs slowly came to life.
Leading 13-9 at the first break, Wyoming Indian missed several shots in transition and had trouble getting the ball inside against Shoshoni’s half-court defense.
“To hold them to 24 in a half was solid,” Shoshoni head coach Max Mills said. “Scoring 17 and giving up 41 the second half was not so good.”
With a decided height advantage, Wyoming Indian head coach Aleta Moss’s girls began to take the ball inside and looked more like the high-powered offense the Lady Chiefs are known for.
They outscored Shoshoni 41-17 in the second half.
The Lady Blue hit only seven shots inside the paint, while the Lady Chiefs filled the shot chart with 29 close range shot.
Shoshoni hit four 3-pointers, with Addie Mason, Kaylor McConnaughey, Brenna Metzler and Natalie Gilbertson all connecting from beyond the arc.
Taya Dixey hit the only trey for Wyoming Indian and led all scorers with 17 points. Jamie Shoyo-Ferris added 14.
The Lady Chiefs have an interesting game at Pavillion tonight when they face Wind River. The series between the two teams is split going into this game.
Friday Shoshoni hosts Kemmerer.
