(Ethete, WY) – The Lady Chiefs built a huge first half lead over the visiting Lady Indians of Lodge Grass, Montana Saturday at Ethete. Wyoming Indian put together 22 and 23 point periods respectively in the first and second to take a 45-27 lead at the half. Wyoming Indian held off a late Lodge Grass rally to win the game 74-65.
The first half was a clinic in fast break basketball for head coach Aleta Moss’s young squad. Paced by 10 first period points by freshman Paisley Blackburn including a pair of 3-point shots, the Lady Chiefs quickly built a double-digit lead and let 22-15 at the half.
Lodge Grass recovered in the second period, exchanging basket for basket with Wyoming Indian but the damage was done early.
Blackburn led Wyoming Indian with 20 points, including four from beyond the arc.
Jamie Shoyo-Ferris was just behind her with 19 and Taya Dixey added 14.
“In the fourth quarter they made a run on us and we were able to keep the lead despite their late defensive pressure,” Moss said.
The Lady Chiefs have a pair of home contests next weekend, hosting Wind River in Southwest 2-A action on Friday then facing Northwest 2-A Greybull on Saturday.
