(Ethete, WY) – Visiting Wind River gave the Lady Chiefs a go in the opening half but the Lady Chiefs pulled away in the third period to take an entertaining 53-42 win at Alfred Redman Memorial Gym on Friday. The game was the first Southwest 2-A Conference matchup for both teams.
Wyoming Indian took an early lead, but a 6-0 run by the Lady Cougars in the second period closed the gap to a single point late in the half. The two teams traded baskets to keep the margin at a single point but the Chiefs scored last to lead 31-28 at the half.
In the third period, Wyoming Indian jumped ahead on the play of Paisley Blackburn and Jamie Shoyo-Ferris who tallied six points each in the period.
Shoyo-Ferris paced the Lady Chiefs with 15 points. Taya Dixey scored 13 on three 3-points, and Blackburn finished with 11.
Madi Arneach led all scorers with 22 points. She hit seven from the floor, three from beyond the arc and hit both of her free throws. Jonae Spoonhunter finished with 12.
Wyoming Indian remained at home hosting the Lady Buffs from Greybull on Saturday.
