(Pavillion, WY) – The Lady Chiefs sit atop the Class 2-A Southwest after an 81-35 win over Wind River in Pavillion on Thursday Night. Wyoming Indian won last week at Kemmerer and Big Piney to move to 3-0 in league play.
The loss dropped the Lady Cougars to 1-2 in Southwest 2-A action.
The game opened with the Lady Chiefs blitzing Wind River in a fast-paced turnover-driven transition game that had Wyoming Indian ahead 27-5 at the end of the opening period.
Much of the damage was done by Taya Dixey, who hit three close-range shots and a pair of treys to pace the Wyoming Indian offense. She finished the game with 27 points to lead all scorers.
Sophomore guard Paisley Blackburn had the hot hand as well, tallying 19 on the game and hitting three 3-pointers.
Flirting with a 30-point lead throughout the early third period, the Lady Chiefs put on a spurt with a 3-pointer by Aliyah Hubbard, breaking the 40-point barrier with 1:50 remaining in the third quarter to start the running clock.
Atavia Smith paced Wind River with 11 points on three 3-pointers, and Morning Sky Littleshield tallied 10.
