(Casper, WY) – It was a quick exit for the Lady Tigers from the Class 3-A state championship in Casper. Lander fell to East 3-A runner-up Torrington in opening round action Thursday at the Ford Wyoming Center 47-36 then were eliminated Friday morning at Swede Erickson Gym on the Casper College campus 47-43 by Buffalo.
In both contests, free throws were a major factor.
In the opener, the Lady Tigers hit just one of four attempts from the line, while Torrington hit 14 of 25 attempts.
In Friday’s game, Lander connected on just seven of 18 from the line in the four point loss.
During both games, Lander led early but faded in the late third and fourth periods.
The Lady Tigers held a 38-35 lead over the Lady Bison in the consolation game Friday but tallied just five points in the final period.
They trailed just 36-33 against the Lady Trailblazers entering the final period of their opener on Thursday, but put just three points on the board in the final eight minutes of play.
Breana Lincoln led the Lady Tigers against Buffalo with 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Against Torrington, Hayden Goggles led Lander, also with 10 and with a pair of treys.
Lander concluded the season with an 11-12 overall record after earning the third-place seed out of the West 3-A Tournament.
