The Lady Tigers won six individual events and a pair of relays in Class 3-A West Regional track competition at Pinedale over the weekend but it wasn’t quite enough as Worland edged Lander 141.5 to 140.5 for first place.
The score is a bit deceptive as head coach Josie Rounds decided to pass through Class 3-A leading distance runner Dorothy Jensen in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs. Jensen won the 800 in 2:16.43 and added another gold in the 4×800 meter relay with teammates Savannah Taylor, Katy Anderson and Daisy Goklish.
The Lander 4×400 meter relay team of Ella Giesmann, Elizabeth Girbowskas, Ava Gerlach and Goklish won the region as well in an outstanding time of 4:05.22.
Lady Tiger junior Paisley Hollingshead won three events and missed a fourth by just a quarter of an inch in the long jump. Hollingshead won both hurdle events and the high jump.
Phenomenal senior thrower Adelyn Anderson added to her bevy of regional championships with a win in the discus at 146-2 and the shot with a put of 49-6.5.
The Tiger boys finished fifth led by senor Gavin Romer with a runner-up finish in the shot put.
The state championships begin this Thursday at 2 p.m. at Kelly Walsh High School in Casper with the 3200-meter run.
