With an impressive 1-2-3 finish in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay, Riverton dominated the Rock Springs Girls Swim Invite. The Lady Wolverines swept all three relays and added three individual championship while scoring an impressive 525 points.
“We had lots of points. Friday, I signed the girls up for events they don’t usually swim,” Riverton head coach Gretta Roth said. “They did amazing and pulled off a big win. I was really proud of them.“
Riverton scored nearly as many points Saturday with 496 to win the Worland Invitational.
In Rock Springs, Lily Ormond paced Riverton with a pair of individual victories, sweeping the sprint freestyle and butterfly events. Ormond won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.68 seconds and came back to capture the 100 butterfly in 1:02.88.
Claire Houtman won Riverton’s other individual event. She won the 500 freestyle in 6:11.70, finishing nearly 17 seconds ahead of Green River’s Leighton Bailey.
Riverton opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay. Ellie Coughanour, Carlee Anderson, Ashtyn Bebout and Aspen Beutler combined for a winning time of 2:07.84, more than two seconds ahead of runner-up Green River.
Riverton’s depth was on full display in the 200-freestyle relay, while sweeping the top three places. Houtman, Gracie Heiner, Ormond and Luci Pfisterer won the event in 1:46.60. Riverton’s team of Kaylee Cory, Kendra Crippen, Leah Edwards and Sissa Hovander was second in 2:02.18, while Brynlee Cory, Carlee Anderson, Mia Titus and Riley Roberts finished third in 2:03.25.
“We got it dialed into our fastest freestylers and they keep pulling it off,” Roth said. “It’s pretty impressive.”
Saturday in Worland, Riverton won four events.
“We had two divers with personal bests in Worland, so they just keep improving as well,” Roth said. “It’s awesome to watch the team pulling things off and reaching their goals.”Lily Ormond swept the 200 freestyle in 2:01.43 and the 100 freestyle in 54.50, while Luci Pfisterer won the 500 freestyle in 5:37.15. The Wolverines also captured the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.62 and the 400 freestyle relay in 3:55.96.
“We have high hopes for conference,” Roth said. “We have some goals and are working towards them little by little.”
