There’s a new look at the Riverton Aquatic Center with first year head girl’s coach Gretta Roth. Roth, from Idaho Falls, Idaho, is assisted by David Collins and has 26 girls out for swimming this fall.
“I swam from when I was five until I graduated,” Roth said. “I had a swimming scholarship to the University of Utah but only swam one semester. “
It’s very early in the season but Riverton has already qualified five girls for the state championships later this fall.
Diver Addison Peart, who took all season in 2024 to qualify made it in her first meet this year.
She is joined by Lucy Pfisterer, Lily Ormand, Ellie Coughanour and Claire Houtmen.
“It’s been a huge learning curve, but I love it,” Roth said. “I love my team and being there for them as a support. Helping them grow mentally and physically stronger.”
Roth works as a special education para-pro at Wind River.
The prospects for this season are bright.
“Honestly, we have a totally different coaching style than what they’ve had, so it’s them learning my coaching style and me learning this whole process. It is a learning experience,” Roth said. “
I’m really excited with how many girls have already made it to state. We’ve got some big goals. I can see us being really successful this year.”
Prestly Barta of Shoshoni will compete for the first time this weekend in Green River.
“I’m excited to see her race. I’m excited, she’s pretty fast,” Roth said.
