(Riverton, WY) – The Lady Wolverines put a defensive clamp on the visiting Rock Springs Lady Tigers Thursday evening behind a swarming press. Riverton won the game 42-26 behind balanced scoring paced by a dozen points from Karsyn Vosika and 11 from Taelyn Leseberg.
Unofficial totals had Rock Springs tallying twice as many turnovers as they did points in the defensive tilt.
Riverton pressed at the inbound with five girls in the forecourt and dropped back into the half-court without dropping off their intensive pressure. The strategy worked for head coach Mike Bozner.
Rock Springs rarely passed the ball more than three times without a turnover and had difficulty getting anything moving in the way of a set offense.
When they did get the ball close, Riverton’s 6-2 senior post Taytum Tyra was waiting, altering shots and swatting a handful of balls back into the face of the shooter.
The combination of Leseberg at the point and Vosika running the floor or clearing off screens in the half-court was effective.
With 49 seconds remaining in the third period, Vosika broke open on a cross-pick along the baseline, and Leseberg drilled a pinpoint pass to the post for an easy basket and a 29-15 Riverton lead.
In the final period, after forcing a Rock Springs turnover, Leseberg took two dribbles and threw a half-court bounce pass, hitting Vosika in stride for two more.
Riverton hosts Green River on Saturday at 2 pm.
