The Lady Wolverines put the hammer down on the visiting Star Valley Lady Braves early Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 shutout. The blowout came on five second-half goals, with senior Dakayda Yarber pulling off a hat-trick with a goal five minutes into the opening half and two more in the space of just six minutes in the first seven minutes of the second.
Teammate and future college roommate Cilia Mejorado added a pair as well.
Riverton rolled on the early goals by Yarber and Mejorado, then stopped scoring for the remainder of the opening half.
They had many shots on goal and played nearly the entire half on Star Valley’s end of the field, but they just couldn’t put the ball into the net.
Credit goes to Lady Braves goal keeper Bella Beck, who must have felt like a duck in a carnival shooting gallery many times during the match.
The second half, with a growing wind at their back, was all Riverton. Yarber tallied goals at 41 and 47, and Mejorado at 54 minutes.
The final two scores of the match came from Mya Noseep at the 60-minute mark and sophomore Karsyn Vosika at 74 minutes.
Riverton head coach Aziz Waheed cleared his bench in the final 20 minutes of the contest but kept senior Braedyn Mosbrucker in the goal to preserve the shutout.
Star Valley cleared midfield only three times in the second half.
