The Riverton Girls finished runner-up in the Class 4-A Regional Swim Meet at Natrona County High School Riverton scored 224.5 points for second place behind 329.5 by Jackson Hole.
The Lady Wolverines didn’t win any events, but they placed in everyone, with many second and third place individual finishes and in the runner-up position in the 200 and 400-yard freestyle relays.
“It was such an awesome experience to be a part of that. Some of our swimmers have been tapering to try for a state time, and Kendra Crippen qualified in the 200 and the 100 free. So exciting for her,” Riverton head girls swim coach Gretta Roth said. “We have another swimmer so close. Hopefully she’ll make it at last chance.”
Green River finished in third place, just 12.5 points behind Riverton, so every race was crucial.
“We had some really strong relays and we were able to beat Jackson in the 200-freestyle relay and Green River in the 400 free,” Roth said. “We were flipping between 2nd and 3rd with Green River up until the last two events and we were able to pull ahead and solidify 2nd place.”
Riverton has a last chance meet this Thursday at 4 p.m. that could qualify a few more girls in specific events, then it’s off to Laramie the first weekend in November for the state championships.
“I am so proud of my team and all the effort they are putting in this season,” Roth said. “I can’t wait for State!”
