(Lander, WY) – Big Bob in the Sky are set to release their self-titled debut album on September 25. The album marks the first full-length release from the Lander, Wyoming-based group.
Shaped by solitary drives, cold rivers, and the quiet weather of heartbreak, the songs on Big Bob in the Sky feel like an intimate conversation with the people and places that shaped singer-songwriter Rob Weimann.
“This record is a bunch of songs I’ve written over the years. Some are new, and some have been hanging around for a long time,” said Weimann. “I never really thought of them as being connected when I was writing them, but hearing them all together now, maybe they’re all love songs in some way. People and places from my past and present, things you hang onto, things you let go of, and all the stuff you learn the hard way in between.”
Anchored in Weimann’s intricate guitar work and a voice that carries equal parts grit and tenderness, the songs feel expansive, unfolding like long stretches of Wyoming prairie. Weimann is joined by Joe Lefevre on vocals, bass, and fiddle, Sean Francis on drums, and Bill Hastings on electric guitar. Together, they create a sound that broadens Weimann’s acoustic songwriting into a dynamic full-band landscape, pairing his fingerstyle playing with rhythm-driven arrangements that add depth without sacrificing intimacy.
“I love what everybody brings to these songs,” said Weimann. “The shakers and percussion swells, the driving beats, Joe playing fiddle and singing harmonies, and Bill’s guitar playing is so nicely textured. These songs started with me and a guitar, but they don’t feel like just my songs anymore. Everybody found their own place in them, and I think that’s what makes the record sound like us.”
Recorded at the Blasting Room with producer and engineer Chris Beeble, Big Bob in the Sky brings together eight songs that live in the space where heartbreak and possibility exist alongside regret and renewal.
The album’s first single, “Hourglass,” grew out of Weimann watching a friend navigate a difficult time. Written as a reminder that time can soften even the hardest moments, the song eventually took on a different meaning as Weimann found himself turning to it through his own experiences.
“I wrote it for someone else, but I ended up finding it helpful when the song became a personal reflection of my own trials,” said Weimann. “It embraces loss with the hopeful mantra that time heals all wounds.”
While “Hourglass” took on new meaning over time, the album’s second single, “Greatest One,” arrived almost all at once. Written in October 2025 in roughly an hour, the song is one of the newest on the record and is carried by a slinky, rolling groove. Beneath the laid-back feel lies a quiet melancholy: the desire to hold onto something you deeply love and the realization that maybe you were never meant to.
“Greatest One is one of my favorite songs on the record,” said Weimann. “I love the honesty, as bitter as it may be. It could be about losing a one-of-a-kind fish or the woman of your dreams, or both. Some creatures are too wild to be held by mortal men, I guess.”
With the album complete, the songs now mark not only different periods in Weimann’s life, but the beginning of something new for the band. For Weimann, the record captures a particular moment for the four musicians and the friendship that has grown around making music together.
“It really marks a time and space in all of our lives,” said Weimann. “Ups, downs, a brotherhood. I love these guys, and playing music with them means a lot to me. Hopefully it’s just the beginning of our creativity together.”
