(Lander, WY) – Lander City Councilmember John Larsen will not be running for re-election this year. He made the announcement during a regular meeting on Tuesday, quipping that “a council person is kind of like underwear: You know that you have to change them out once in a while.”
Larsen was elected in 2022, according to the city website.
After acknowledging Larsen’s unique “way of phrasing things,” Mayor Missy White said she was “saddened” by his announcement, but she agreed with his “perspective” that “it’s good to have change.”
“You’ve been an amazing servant … in service to the community of Lander,” White said. “I hope someone equally qualified and motivated will be willing to step into that position.”
To run for municipal office, city staff said candidates must complete a Municipal Offices Application for Nomination by Primary form and submit it to the City Clerk’s Office during this year’s filing period, which is May 14-29.
