The Lander Volunteer Fire Department was paged to a call on South 1st Street Monday morning at 8:52 a.m.
The root of a small kitchen fire was a microwaved potato that created a great deal of smoke and some large flames.
Scanner traffic indicated the fire was extinguished quickly and additional fire units were canceled within 15 minutes of the original call to the fire.
The potato fire was the only fire call in Fremont County Monday. There were 9 calls for service over the weekend, however.
The Riverton Fire Department responded to 5 of the 9 calls including 2 fire alarms, a grass fire on Hutchinson Road, a grass fire on McCall Lane, and a fire on hte 6600 block of Riverview Road.
The Lander Rural Fire District worked on a grass fire over the weekend on Chittim Road. Crowheart’s Fire Department and the Dubois Fire Department worked on a fire on Hart Trail Saturday.
