Lander firefighters worked to extinguish a structure fire in the 400 block of Wood Street, Tuesday morning.
Their efforts were assisted by a neighbor who quickly located a firefighter and knocked down some of the flames preventing the home from being a complete loss.

On Tuesday, April 9th at about 11:30 AM, the Lander Volunteer Fire Dept. responded to a report of a working structure fire in the area of 400 Wood St in Lander. Arriving units found smoke coming from the interior of the dwelling. Natural gas and electrical services were shut off to the home as a safety precaution. Fire crews knocked down remaining hot spots and ventilated smoke from the home. An acquaintance of the homeowner was able to locate a fire extinguisher and knock down the initial flames before the fire spread. The quick thinking on the part of individual likely saved the home. At this time it’s suspected that candle use is the likely cause of the fire.”
