(Lander, WY) – The City of Lander is thrilled to announce the opening of the ice skating rink at City Park on Friday, January 3. After an extended delay due to unseasonably warm temperatures, this week’s cooler weather has allowed our staff to create a safe ice surface. Please note, there is no hockey at this time – stay tuned for updates on the hockey rink.
“We are excited to welcome our community back to the rink,” said Lori Eckhardt of the Parks and Recreation Department. “Ice skating is one of the highlights of winter, and we can’t wait to see everyone enjoying this wonderful tradition.”
This season, the rink will once again offer rentals and concessions, including our hometown favorite: picklesicles—delicious frozen pickle juice popsicles!
A Lander Tradition Since the Late 1950s
Ice skating has been a cherished winter tradition in Lander since the late 1950s or early 1960s, serving as a hub for ice follies and curling leagues. Over the years, the rink has been a place for fun, fitness, and community connection. Only twice in its long history—in the 1980s and in 2021—has the rink been unable to open due to weather.
This year, enjoy skating under the ball field lights in the evening for a magical winter experience. Whether you’re a lifelong skater or trying it for the first time, the rink is the perfect place to spend a winter day.
New Features for Your Convenience
This season, we’re introducing even more convenience for our guests. The rink now accepts credit cards, debit cards, and tap-to-pay options. Admission is $3, skate rentals are $4, and skate sharpening is available for $10. Punch passes are also available.
