The LVHS Swim and Dive Team competed in Cody at the Terry Bartlett Invitational on September 6th, coming out on top against five other 3A teams. Lander scored 369 points over second place Cody’s 277. Buffalo, Powell, Worland, and Newcastle rounded out the competion.
Individually, two more Lander swimmers turned in times fast enough to qualify for the state meet in November. Shyrone AnesiShoyo and Iris Woltman qualified at the meet, joining 11 of their teammates who already earned the right to wear the green parkas.
Lander’s relay teams won all three relay events: the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. The large number of swimmers on the Lander team allowed them to enter multiple teams in each relay event to give more swimmers relay experience. In both the 200 Yard Medley relay and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, Lander relay teams took the first and second places.
In individual events, Lander won the 200 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard IM, 500 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Backstroke, and 100 Yard Breaststroke. Top ten finishers for Lander were: Shyrone AnesiShoyo (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly), Katy Anderson (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Backstroke), Demyri Cunningham (100 Yard Freestyle), Chase Denton (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Freestyle), Ella Giesmann (50 Yard Freestyle), Cadence Hamilton (500 Yard Freestyle), Cira Hampton (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly), Vayda Havens (200 Yard IM and 500 Yard Freestyle), Ruby Johnson (100 Yard Freestyle), Sara Kearns (200 Yard Freestyle and 500 Yard Freestyle), Liv Ooten (200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Breaststroke), Emily Plaisted (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Breaststroke), Daegan Reinhardt (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke), Lara Robertson (200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke), Ang Rudd (200 Yard Freestyle and 500 Yard Freestyle), Sierra Selley (50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly), and Brooklyn White (Diving).
In this meet with the invitational format, athletes can enter up to four events, with no more than two individual events. Points are awarded to the top twelve places, with no more than four athletes from any one team counting in the scoring. Points for relays count double, but only one relay per school counts for points. The total points for all the events determine the team placings.
Lander is coached by Erik DeClue with assistants Greg Anderson and Lyndsay Alcaraz. The
team will be competing at home against 4A teams on Friday September 13th against Green
River and Saturday September 14th against Jackson.
