All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Riverton, WY) – Riverton Police Department Chief Eric Hurtado has confirmed with County 10 that 33-year-old Lander man Michael Odom was the individual arrested in connection with the fatal wreck that occurred on Federal Blvd. in Riverton on June 17, which resulted in two deaths.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol preliminary report states that the vehicle Odom was the driver of was travelling northbound on N Federal Blvd. (WY 789) at a “high rate of speed” and had “almost collided with several other vehicles.” The speed limit for that road is posted as 30 mph. The report narrative states Odom’s vehicle “failed to stop at the red signal light” and ultimately collided with a left-turning vehicle coming from East Webbwood Road.
According to previous reports from the Riverton Police Department, Odom had to be extricated from his vehicle. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Chief Hurtado shared with County 10 that Odom appeared to have been intoxicated, and at one point tried to flee from officers while being questioned, resulting in a foot pursuit.
Odom was ultimately charged with Homicide by Vehicle, DUI, and Resisting/Interfering with a Peace Officer.
