Lander School Board to consider cell phone policy on second reading during regular meeting Tuesday

(Lander, WY) – The Fremont County School District 1 Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 863 Sweetwater St. in Lander. 

The agenda includes an executive session regarding litigation.

After the executive session, the board will recognize Vivian Brown as the County 10 Support Staff Member of the Month, Johnny Horton as the Wyoming Association of Elementary and Middle School Teachers Wyoming Assistant Principal of the Year, and Rachel Peters (math) and Claudia Troxel (science) for earning the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. 

During presentations, the superintendent will give an update on education legislation and King Building signage, and the FCSD 1 Robotics Club will present a program proposal for coaching stipends and updated budget considerations. 

Action items on the agenda includes:

• personnel actions
• a $7,400 grant from the LOR Foundation for a new diving board
• two policies on second reading regarding administering medicine to students and use of cell phones and telecommunication devices in schools
• establishing a new checking account for a newly established scholarship fund
• use of depreciation reserves for weightlifting equipment at Pathfinder High School
• an agreement to distribute Helen Petersdorf Educational Trust funds equally among all Fremont County school districts

Discussion items on the agenda include:

• salary discussion timelines
• transparency – board meeting recordings
• standards based learning and grading expectations
• long-term suspension and expulsion
• girls softball

An executive session will be held on matters related to employment of personnel before adjournment.
