(Lander, WY) – The Fremont County School District 1 (Lander) Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 863 Sweetwater Street in Lander.
The agenda includes several recognitions, for:
-WHSAA Good Sportsmanship Award recipients Betsy Brown, Parker Burton, and Caleb Larvie
-2025 Wyoming Teacher of the Year Morgan Hahn of Lander Valley High School
-Wyoming Accountability in Education Act and Every Student Succeeds Act results for grades K-8
The board will hear a report on statewide assessment results from the 2023-2024 school year later in the meeting.
Under action items, the board will consider approving personnel actions as well as the use of about $14,500 from the depreciation reserve account to cover the remaining costs of paving the Blazin’ Bobcat Trail at Baldwin Creek Elementary.
The trail project has generated $50,700 in community donations, according to a staff report.
The board will also consider approving a Wyoming School Boards Association resolution from FCSD 1 related to curriculum transparency.
The proposed resolution says the WSBA is “committed to supporting curriculum transparency measures between our schools and the community.”
“The community values educational transparency and accountability in the school district,” the resolution states. “Parents, guardians, and community members have a right to access information about the curriculum and materials being taught in schools. Transparency in curriculum promotes trust and collaboration between educators, parents and the community.”
There are five “discussion items” on Tuesday’s agenda, including two policies on first reading regarding professional staff hiring and classified staff positions.
The board will also discuss the planned reorganization of FCSD 1 and Fremont County School District 9 into a single school district.
The discussion is intended to prepare trustees for an upcoming community meeting in Jeffrey City “to solicit input on plans for the school,” the agenda states.
Other discussion items include:
-cell phone usage in classrooms
-focus areas for the Nov. 5 board meeting
-seeking a new student representative to serve on the board
