(Lander, WY) – The Lander School Board will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, in the Boardroom at the Administration Building at 863 Sweetwater St. in Lander.
During the hearing, members of the public will have the opportunity to submit comments about the district’s proposed policy regarding staff members who choose to carry concealed weapons on school property.
The proposed policy reflects recently passed state legislation and represents an amendment to Fremont County School District 1’s existing concealed carry rules, Superintendent Mike Harris said during a board meeting last week.
“Hopefully (the proposal) reflects our best thinking on the subject while trying to maintain some training requirements, answering some questions about financial responsibilities and instructor qualifications for those who are providing training to our staff, and just clarifying some of the areas where the statute is up to districts to determine,” Harris said.
The school board will vote on the proposed amendments during a special board meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 29.
