Lander swim and dive team continues to roll

(Lander, WY) – Lander Valley High School Girls Swim and Dive Team had another productive week earning two more meet wins. On Friday at Bruce Gresly Aquatic Center, Lander easily out-scored Worland’s much smaller team. On Saturday, the Tigers traveled to Pinedale, where they prevailed over five other teams at the Pinedale Invitational.

In addition, Lander qualified another swimmer for state. Eden Kemp qualified in the butterfly with her swim of 1:15.86 on Friday. This gives Lander a total of 17 athletes qualified for the state championship meet in November.

Lander’s relay teams continued to dominate, recording the fastest times in all six relay races across the two days, even as the coaches changed up the relay lineups to give the athletes opportunities to swim with different teammates.

At Friday’s Dual, Lander took first in all the individual events. First place finishers were: Sara Kearns (200 Yard Freestyle and 500 Yard Freestyle), Daegan Reinhardt (200 Yard IM), Katy Anderson (50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle), Adlyn Even (Diving), Vayda Havens (100 Yard Butterfly and 100 Yard Breaststroke), and Cira Hampton (100 Yard Backstroke). Others scoring points for Lander included: Shyrone AnesiShoyo, Chayse Denton, Brianna Else, Ella Giesmann, Brinlee Heller, Eden Kemp, Liv Ooten, Emily Plaisted, Lara Robertson, Brooklyn White, and Iris Woltman.

On Saturday, Lander outscored Jackson, Evanston, Kemmerer, Sublette County, and Rock Springs with excellent performances. Lander won five of the individual events. The team was paced by Katy Anderson with wins in the 100 Yard Butterfly and the 100 Yard Backstroke. Also taking top rankings were Vayda Havens (200 Yard Freestyle), Shyrone AnesiShoyo (200 Yard IM), and Sara Kearns (50 Yard Freestyle). Others scoring points for Lander were Chayse Denton, Brianna Else, Adlyn Even, Cira Hampton, Vayda Havens, Brinlee Heller, Ruby Johnson, Liv Ooten, Emily Plaisted, Daegan Reinhardt, Lara Robertson, Lyla Rounds, Ang Rudd, Brooklyn White, and Milana Wood.

Many of the athletes this week had personal best times in their races. The coaches are working to help all of the athletes reach their potential. Head Coach Erik DeClue said, “The team is starting to look strong. We had some great races this week, while adding more qualifiers.” DeClue is assisted by Greg Anderson and Lindsay Alcaraz.

The team’s performances lately are making it likely they will be very competitive for the 3A title this year. You can see them in action again on Thursday this week in Riverton at 4 pm. On Saturday they travel to Jackson for the Jackson Scramble.
